Abstract. Composite structures are considered as the auxiliary to conventional metallic materials. However, a thorough understanding of material behaviour is required replace materials in use with scientific evidence for design rather than designing based on high safety factor. The filament wound E-glass/epoxy pipes different helix angles exposed internal pressure studied. sample GFRP pipe namely [±45o], [±55o] & [±70o] were subjected open end until failed due burst(pressure) and corresponding strains recorded using strain smart 5000 data acquisition system (DAQ). theoretical first-ply failure burst determined (i) Maximum stress theory, (ii) theory (iii) Tsai Hill later compared experimental results. first ply samples was observed by whitening phenomenon. Later, damage initiated formation pine holes that act micro crack which grows macro fiber direction final failure. A nonlinear relation between longitudinal observed.
